What Every Girl Should Know By 30

by: Amy Brannan

Roland Pickled White Asparagus Spear, 11.6 oz

Never purchase canned asparagus, and know that canned asparagus shouldn't exist.

Be well on your way to perfecting your spaghetti sauce.

Don't ever set a glass dish on top of a hot stove.  It WILL explode.

Own at least three complete outfits that make you feel "on".

Stop beating yourself up for having a vice (or three).

Own a complete set of knives and good cookware, 2 measuring cups, a strainer, measuring spoons, wooden spoons, a spatula and tongs.  If you really like to cook, add a sifter, a rolling pin, a complete set of Pyrex and a grater.

Play hooky from work once in a while, especially if you haven't been using your vacation days for an actual vacation.

Your mind and body start changing in your late 20's - early 30's, and your body might get mad at you for not getting knocked up yet.  Ignore that for as long as you can.  Honestly, you have YEARS before you have to start worrying about it.

It's perfectly fine to be lazy on Sundays.

It's ok to say "No".

It's ok to not feel moved to help the cause currently getting the most buzz (i.e., “Let’s adopt a precious African baby!”), but it IS important to help the less fortunate in your own way.

Open a savings account and send at least 10 percent of what you bring home into it every paycheck.  Don't touch it until November; then you are permitted to use part of it for Christmas shopping.

If you aren't doing something you enjoy for a living, put together a plan to change that in the next six months.

Don't get into a serious relationship while another one is still ending.

Call your grandparents and parents at least once a week.

Don't get a pet if you can't take care of it.

Don't worry if you don't feel like growing older gracefully.
