Peace

●   ●   ●

One World United

by: Chase Cavanaugh

Is it totally unrealistic that there can be peace in the world? A world with no sickness, hunger, or poverty. I'd like to believe that behind the greed, corruption and selfishness of the world that every one simply wants to have their basic needs fulfilled and have security in knowing that their needs will continue to be fulfilled.

Have we as a people become so blindsided by our individual quest for survival that we've become unaware, afraid, uninterested or have forgotten to hold our elected officials accountable for taking care of the people?

Will we continue to rationalize, disregard, excuse, ignore and except the status quo, never realizing that the quest will continue to get fiercer and our quality of food, clothing, shelter and life in general will continue to diminish.

How do we create change?  For today. For tomorrow.  For the future.

- By becoming and staying aware of what is happening in the world.

- By making a commitment to help ourselves and others become aware.

- By taking a day, an hour, a few minutes out of our daily quest for survival to make a serious effort to create change.

Often change does not occur because we refuse to act unless we see that others feel the same as us and are already in action.

Yes one can be lonely, but change begins with one.

What is ONE?

●   ONE is a new effort by Americans to rally Americans – ONE by ONE – to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty.

●   ONE is a broad movement of Americans from every state and walk of life.

●   ONE is a charitable organization that does not accept donations.  Instead it is asking for your voice.  There are many ways to help.

●   More than 2 million people have lent their voices to ONE by visiting www.one.org  and signing the ONE Declaration.

●   More than three million Americans are also wearing white bands as a show of support for ending extreme poverty and global AIDS.

●   ONE is Americans spreading the word in churches, coffee shops, on television, college campuses and the Internet.

●   It is Americans of all beliefs and every walk of life, united as ONE to help make poverty history.
